Growing up in Colorado, Patrice developed a deep love of nature and the outdoors, resulting in an awareness of the natural world that is evident in her artwork. An avid hiker, bird-watcher, outdoors woman and naturalist, her time spent in nature is a constant inspiration for her paintings. Patrice is also a dedicated plein air painter and many of the studies she paints on location are used as reference for larger studio works. While any subject may be the stimulus for a painting, her art most typically portrays the landscapes, birds, and wildlife found in the mountains and deserts of the Rocky Mountain West.

Patrice’s art training has included formal academic coursework, numerous workshops and private study both here and abroad. She continues to advance her development as an artist through the camaraderie of plein air painting with other artists. As a child, she showed an early talent for art and was encouraged by her family and teachers to pursue an art career. She combined art with her interest in archaeology and chose a professional degree and career in archaeology, which allowed both art and the natural world to remain a center of her activities. Scientific illustration was incorporated into her milieu and she produced artifact illustrations for archaeological and academic researchers. Throughout this time, she continued to draw and paint and became passionate about plein air painting, which combined her loves of nature and art. She now pursues art full-time.

To keep her insights and inspiration fresh, Patrice travels regularly throughout the Rocky Mountains, the desert southwest and Europe. One of her most memorable artistic opportunities came when she spent part of 2001 and 2002 living in Florence, Italy, where she studied art, and explored and painted the Italian landscape. Patrice currently lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
